Achilleas Sourlas

Achilleas (1978) is a Greek – born musician, living in Berlin. He has written music for orchestra, film, theatre, dance, installations, websites etc. His work has been performed in Greece, Germany, UK, Spain, USA, Taiwan and Venezuela.

As a solo / group performer on flute, alto/tenor sax and keys, he has worked with various jazz, funk, electronic, world music groups, orchestras and ensembles in the UK, China, Taiwan, Ireland, Norway and Greece. His appearances include the Royal Albert Hall, The jazz Cafe, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Edinburgh Castle, Beijing MOMA, Seoul Design Plazza as well as numerous other venues. He currently freelances as a wind, piano and live electronics performer, as well as composing for various media, especially theatre.

Apart from concert music, Achilleas is active as an electronic music producer and media composer. He founded Ax.Art, a record label, music production house and creative software company in 2005 and has released a number of works under different names, as well as the music app LoAdKeR, a fractal rhythm event generator.

Achilleas has studied music composition with Marina Adamia, Peter Nelson, electroacoustic composition with Katerina Tzedaki, music theory with Dimitris Athanasiadis, classical flute with David Nicholson and Nicolo Dimopoulos, jazz flute with Rowland Sutherland and saxophone with Chico Freeman. He holds a Master's Degree in Music Technology (Leeds University, UK) and a Bachelor in Computer Science (Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki, GR).
